Earnings disclaimer

Last updated 7 October 2026

Nothing on Smart Observer is a promise or a forecast of income. What anyone earns from paid testing depends on the tests available to them.

No income promises

We do not publish earnings figures, income examples or testimonials, and nothing in our articles should be read as a statement of what you will earn. Results differ from person to person, and some people will earn nothing.

How pay works

For UserTesting, the test feed shows how much each test pays, and amounts vary with test type, length and demand. Each test pays a set amount shown in advance, and there is no fixed income. Payments for completed tests are usually sent 14 days later, by PayPal, which is the only payout method. UserTesting does not withhold taxes, so contributors handle their own.

Approval and availability

Applicants complete a short practice test first, and approval is not guaranteed. Tests go to people whose screener answers match what a company needs, and availability changes daily, so there may be days with no tests that suit you.

Independent contributors

Contributors are paid per completed test as independent contributors. It is not a job, and it does not come with a salary, hours or employment benefits.

Your own decisions

Treat any money from paid testing as a bonus rather than something your budget depends on. Provider terms, requirements and pay can change on the provider’s own site, so check them there before you sign up. For how we are funded, see the affiliate disclosure.
