This post is to make an official announcement regarding our major project: Dracu-Riot by Yuzusoft.
Ideally, we wanted to start work on Dracu-Riot the day following its release on 31 March (which was why our release of the English Patch for Hoshizora no Memoria so close to April Fools’). However, intervention from Murphy’s law had rendered this initial plan obsolete; Dracu-Riot was riddled with many data serialisation techniques that made engineering a rather unpleasant experience.
Fortunately, there was an engineering breakthrough for Dracu-Riot and we didn’t have to consider some of our fallback games.
A drastic change from Hoshizora no Memoria is that Staircase will now outsource its engineering. We believe that specialisation will improve efficiency and allow us to focus on our core competency—translate. Thus, we will be working closely with kingshriek for our work on Dracu-Riot, as he will handle the technical operations. Here is a proof-of-concept screenshot.
The engineering status of the project is as follows:
– text extraction/reinsertion complete (with a few issues still outstanding)
– wordwrapping being worked on
– extraction/insertion of game resources being investigated
Translation will begin next week. The project page is currently in the works, and should be
less bare more colourful in the upcoming weeks. For those familiar with our update practices, translation (line) progress will be updated frequently on the project page, any immediate news will be updated on Twitter, whilst more comprehensive status reports will be posted every 1-3 months, (depending on their necessity).
We look forward to another productive year or two at Staircase.
Translator and Project Coordinator
PS: A 1.2 patch for Hoshizora no Memoria will be released soon. Some staff are currently busy, and haven’t been able to get around to it. Keep an eye out for that as there will be a significant number of improvements to patch 1.1.
PPS: Preliminary analysis of the game’s code has revealed that we should be expecting a PSP port for Dracu-Riot in the near future.
